Swim School FAQ's

Swim School FAQs

Will my lesson time be the same when lessons resume?

To help us manage safe access and usage of changing rooms, while maintaining social distancing from other centre users, we have had to stagger our lesson times. Swimming lesson times have been adjusted slightly and we have tried to minimise any disruption to customers to keep the changes as minimal as possible.

Your centre will inform you of any changes to your lesson time via email prior to lessons resuming. If this time is not suitable then other alternative times will be offered.

Why has the lesson duration been changed?

The duration of swimming lessons has been reduced by 5 minute  to allow us to manage the safe entry and exit of our swimmers, carry out the required cleaning of equipment between sessions and to help us manage the reduced capacity we have in our reception areas, changing rooms and spectator areas.

Our teachers will be prepared to welcome swimmers at the start of each lesson, take the registers needed for NHS Test and Trace purposes and then start the lesson promptly.

This is under ongoing review and as guidance changes and we are in position to ease the additional measures we are introducing, such as cleaning of equipment between sessions, we hope to return to standard lesson durations.

How are swimming instructors going to deliver the lessons?

In line with government and Swim England guidance, our swimming instructors will be teaching all lessons from poolside. Instructors or assistants will not be able to provide support in the water. Instead, swimming aids will be used to ensure all swimmers are safe and if these are needed for the duration of the swimming lesson, the teacher will ask that you place this on your child when arriving for your lesson.

In certain classes, it may be safer for lessons to resume with parents/ guardians in the water to provide support for their child. Where this is required, the centre team will inform the customers of these classes directly.

When I arrive at the centre, what do I do?

All customers require a Fusion card to access the centre through the turnstiles. Your Fusion card will allow access to the centre 10 minutes before your new lesson time. If you do not have a Fusion card, this will either be prepared ready for collection on your first visit or will be allocated to you when you arrive at the centre.

Can I use the changing rooms?

Changing rooms will be in use and cleaned regularly. We have a vastly reduced capacity so to help us manage our changing rooms please try to use these for the shortest amount of time possible before and after the lesson.

If there is anything you can do to help reduce the time you use the changing rooms, such as arriving 'beach-ready' with costumes under clothes it would be very much appreciated by the centre teams.

Where do parents/guardians go while the lesson is running?

To help us reduce the number of people in our buildings, in line with our reduced capacities to comply with government guidance, please limit spectators as much as possible. We would encourage one spectator only per child.

Please use the designated spectator or seating areas and maintain social distancing from other users.  Where spectator space is limited, the use of face coverings may be requested for parents/ guardians.

Will my child use equipment during the lesson?

Equipment will be available during the sessions for swimmers to practice their skills. This equipment is cleaned between each session and during the lesson, will be made available for the sole use of each participant with no sharing.

Can my child wear goggles during the lesson?

Goggles are encouraged, however please be aware that our instructors will not be able to support if these do become loose or come off. We'd recommend practicing at home with your child, so they are able to put them back on during lessons where needed. If goggles are taken off during lessons, the swimmer can continue to practice without them.

Will Swimming Instructors be updating assessments?

Our instructors will update registers and assessments on a weekly basis. After a long break, it may take a little while to remember and practice the range of swimming skills included in each stage.

Instructors will assess the elements that are focused on in each session and this progress can be viewed in the Home Portal. Please note, it will take several attended sessions before all elements have been checked again by the instructors and updated, please bear with us while we update your account.

Will you still be giving out badges and certificates at the centre?

We will not be using swimming badges and certificates at present. Due to our reduced capacity and one-way systems, we need to avoid congestion at our reception areas and also avoid manually handling certificates and badges and passing to customers. Achievements will still be recognised and recorded in your Home Portal account.
